El Capitan Canyon, all-season comfort camping on the California coast, is renowned for its picturesque canvas safari tents, contemporary cedar cabins and adventure yurts. Originally a traditional campground, El Capitan Canyon reopened in 2002 as an upscale outdoor destination and one of the first to be coined “luxury camping.” Set on 350 acres of rolling hills and creek canyons nestled against the Los Padres National Forest, the Canyon is 20 miles north of Santa Barbara/20 minutes from the airport and two hours north of Los Angeles. Family-owned since 1975, El Capitan Canyon caters to families, couples and groups. The Canyon is a five-minute walk to El Capitan State Beach. During the summer months, the Canyon becomes a place for families to reconnect as it offers a no-fuss, back-to-nature camp experience. Couples can enjoy romantic getaways and groups can visit for retreats, corporate think-tanks or relaxed weddings.
Down in the canyon alongside the creek, El Capitan Canyon’s newest accommodation is the versatile adventure yurt. Each circular canvas structure is 20’ in diameter and includes a queen size bed and twin size bed with additional twin trundle bed, refrigerator, ceiling fan and skylight. Bathrooms are conveniently located nearby.
The 26 canvas safari tents are 12’x14’, set on raised wooden decks, and fully furnished with beds, linens and electricity. Safari tents contain one queen or two double beds. The tents also offer easy access to the Canyon’s bathhouses.
The 109 contemporary rustic cedar cabins come in a variety of sizes and bedding arrangements for two to six guests, from romantic Creekside Kings to family-sized Canyon Suites and classic Canyon Bunks. Some cabins offer gas fireplaces and large soaking tubs, sleeping lofts, or separate sitting areas. Every cabin has a kitchenette, bathroom and front deck looking out on either the creek or the canyon.
